Subject: Check Register

Question
I am trying to get a handle on my accounting as I have not been posting deposits or payments outside my normal handwritten checkbook. I am working to get my quickbooks in line but I see a problem in tracking the checking account inside of quickbooks.  It seems my check register is not posting only deposits and checks written, but it is also posting open invoices. It look almost identical to my A/R report. If it stays this way I will never know what my actual checking account balance is.  It is probably just a simple setting but I have wasted 2 days trying to figure out what needs to be changed.
PLEASE HELP

Answer
Hi Michael,

It sounds like you are using an item on the invoice that is pointing to the check register.  We need to find out which one and repoint that item to the correct income account.

Run the following report
Reports menu> List reports > Item price list> click on Modify
button on the report button bar > in the display tab, unclick price
and preferred vendor and then click "Account" , "COGS Account"
Click OK

Now - again at the top of the report on the report button bar
click on the drop down field for "sort by" and choose Account.

Scroll through this list and see which items have select the checking account on it.

Then reply here at allexperts and let me know the names of the items that are the culprit plus if this item should be considered income or are you trying to reducing the invoice for a payment
