Question
Hi -
We are using QB Premier 2006. Wondering if we can specify customer need/due date by line item in the sales order.
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Ray,
You can set up a custom field for items and add that column to a customized sales order.

To add the custom field do the following:
Click on Lists (at the top of the window)
Click on item list
Double click on any item that will need a custom need/due date to edit the item
at the right of the window click on custom fields
If you have not defined any fields a window will come up that tells you that and tell you to click on define fields
Click ok
click on define fields
Put a check in the use field and then type a definition for that field (Need/Due Date)
Click OK
A window will come up telling you you can use this field by turning it on it custom templates.
Click ok
Click ok in the next window (leaving the field blank)

You will now need to set up a customized sales order by defining a custom template (or modifying one that you already customized).

Do this by Click on lists
Clicking on Templates
Either double click on your customized sales order
OR
double Click on Custom sales order
Click on columns
put a check mark in the Screen (and if you'd like print) column of the Need/Due date field
You can change where it is on the sales order by altering the numbering.
If you need to customize the columns, click on layout designer and make the changes that you wish.
Once you're satisfied
Click ok
and click ok again.

You now have your date field on the sales order
If you need to add it to the invoice, you will have to customize that also.

Hope this helps

Karin
