About Audrey Zohner
Expertise
I am an expert rag quilter. I have made over 100 rag quilts and would love to assist others with questions and methods. I don't know much about actual quilting like machine or hand quilting or applique. I am, however, the resident expert on rag quilting in my town. If you want to make a rag quilt, I am your woman.

Experience
I have been sewing for 12 years and rag quilting for 4. I have experienced just about every pitfall there is in rag quilting. Check out my quilts at audreysragquilts.etsy.com.

Question
Hello,
I noticed that on 2/2/08, you had a question from a woman who mentioned reading your article...
Where can I find that article?
One of my New Year's resolutions is to reduce my craft stash by 60% before I buy anything new to add, so I thought I could use up my charm squares on a rag quilt.  Do the all squares have to be flannel?
Thank you,
Kristy

Answer
Hi,

The article I was talking about is my answer to Julie, the very first person to ask me a question.  I explained everything about how to make a rag quilt in there.  Just look for Julie in my past questions.  She's the first.

As to your second question, not all of the squares need to be flannel.  However, quilting cotton and polyester don't rag as well as flannel, so if you want really fuzzy seams, you have to either surround the non-flannel squares with flannel or use an extra layer of flannel in your batting.

Feel free to put whatever fabric you want in your quilt.  Just make sure that the edges unravel, or if they don't - make sure that you put a fabric with it that does rag.
Have a good one!
