Question hello,
Thank you so much for offering to help with questions.
I'm making my 1st rag purse. I am so lost on how I create the pockets ( I have four pockets total) on the inside of the bag, do I sew the right sides together and then turn inside out and then what do I do?
Thank you
Elaine
Answer First of all, the pockets are sewn at the same time as the bag. You line up the pocket with the bottom & side edges of your bag sections, baste them in place and then sew everything at the same time when you put together the bag.
Sorry if this doesn't make sense. It's kind of hard to explain.
Try this. You sew the top edges of the pockets right side together, turn right side out and topstitch along the top edge. You should have four pocket sections.
To place a pocket in the inside of the bag along one of the short sides: Sew your two bag squares together to make the side. You should have a column of two squares. Now, line up one pocket along the bottom and sides of the bottom square of the column. Baste a 1/4" seam along the sides and bottom.

| Bag Side |
| Top Square |

|____________|Seam Line
|---------------------Top of pocket goes along this line

You will need to baste all your pockets in place before you start sewing the bag together.
I hope this helps. Just remember, sew your bag squares into columns, baste your pockets in place, and... then.... sew the bag together.
