Question Iam making Maple Leaves pattern quilt. My first quilt. Idont understand when it says cut then segmented 2 1/2". or how to make 4 2 1/2"half-square triangles from a 6" square. I am using the book Big Book of small quilts
Answer Hi Lisa,
Some patterns are not as clear as they need to be.
Here is a site with good instructions on making the maple leaf block.
http://www.equilters.com/BOM/BOM2006-block4.html
An easy way to make the triangle sets for the leaf points is as follows:
1. cut two 5 inch squares from the background fabric and from leaf fabric.
2. place one leaf and one background square, right sides together.
3. draw a diagonal line on one of the squares.
4. sew 1/4 inch from the line, on both sides.
5. cut one the line.
6. you now have two squares made from 2 different colored fabrics with out having to deal with the bias edge before stitching.
to make 4 triangles from a square
1. draw diagonal lines on the square.
2. cut on the diagonals
3. now you have 4 triangles.
I hope this is of some help
