About Audrey Zohner
Expertise
I am an expert rag quilter. I have made over 100 rag quilts and would love to assist others with questions and methods. I don't know much about actual quilting like machine or hand quilting or applique. I am, however, the resident expert on rag quilting in my town. If you want to make a rag quilt, I am your woman.

Experience
I have been sewing for 12 years and rag quilting for 4. I have experienced just about every pitfall there is in rag quilting. Check out my quilts at audreysragquilts.etsy.com.

Question
Hello.  I am making a baby boy rag quilt and only found three fabrics that I like. Most I make have five or six, so I'm not sure how to arrange the squares with just the three different color of fabric.  Do you have any suggestions?  Thanks!

Answer
I would normally do a diagonal pattern with three fabrics.
Like these quilts, but with only three colors:http://auntscrappy.com/?m=200706

or you could do a strip pattern like this woman did: http://www.themikkelsens.net/sarah/journal/archive/2006_01_01_archive.html

or you could do a log cabin pattern like this: http://www.fourcornersdesigns.com/books/6106/book6106.php3

I really like the strip quilts because they are very quick and easy.  The diagonal will be a bit harder and the log cabin will take the longest.  I would do the diagonal if you plan on putting batting in your quilt.  You'll have to stitch along the entire length of the strip quilt if you want to put batting in it.

Thanks for the question!
