About Audrey Zohner
Expertise
I am an expert rag quilter. I have made over 100 rag quilts and would love to assist others with questions and methods. I don't know much about actual quilting like machine or hand quilting or applique. I am, however, the resident expert on rag quilting in my town. If you want to make a rag quilt, I am your woman.

Experience
I have been sewing for 12 years and rag quilting for 4. I have experienced just about every pitfall there is in rag quilting. Check out my quilts at audreysragquilts.etsy.com.

Question
I cannot get my rag purse to stop shedding. Can you help with any suggestions?  Thank you very much.

Answer
If you've only washed it like, two times, then I would say just be patient.  However, here are a few ways to defuzz the stuff.

1. Take it outside and beat it.  Literally.  Now, don't go all crazy and ruin it, but I like to hang my quilts after I wash and dry them the first time and gently hit them with a big spoon.  This is really good to do on a windy day.  You could also take it outside and shake it like crazy.

2. Put it in the dryer with a couple of tennis balls.  The balls will hit the purse and dislodge more fuzz.  Make sure to watch your lint catcher, though.

3. Go outside and hand pick the edges.  I have done this with a levi quilt that fuzzed like crazy.  I just took the side of my thumb and the side of my folded down pointer finger and kind of pinched the edges.  I got quite a bit of lint while doing it.  Then I went with option 1 to get the rest.

Hope this helps.  Your purse should stop shedding after the third wash or so.
