Subject: machine quilting on the bias

Question
I am machine quilting on the bias.  When I finish a row and take it out of the
machine the slightest stretching causes the thread to pop (break) in lots of
places.  It sounds like popcorn!  What am I doing wrong?

Answer
You need to adjust the tension on your bobbin thread.

Take a sample "sandwich" of fabrics and batting, and experiment with various tension settings until you get one which is just right.

If you have invisible thread in your bobbin, you may have to hand-wind it onto the bobbin to make sure it does not get stretched as it is machine-wound on the sewing machine, as often happens.
