Question I am creating a scrap batik quilt. I would like to use fleece as my backing with no inner layer. My dilemma is the method to be used -- should it be envelope fashion or my regular method of binding. On the first method I am concerned about the bulk and turning under the edge. Would appreciate your thoughts.
Answer I would use a regular method of binding, to reduce bulk, as you suggest.
HOWEVER, I have done this and was very disapointed with the result - if you are planning to quilt it. The fleece will distort, and the finished quilt will not lay flat, unless you just tie it rather than quilt it. Even if you enclose the fleece inside a woven backing, it will still distort - my own experience.
