Question
how do I position ruler in order to nip corners off at 45 degree angle?

Answer
HI June,
Most quilting rulers have a 45 degree line on them.  line the 45 line with the straight side of the quilt and this should give you a straight line to trim the corner at the correct angle.

a 45 degree angle is usually from corner to corner, diagonally across a square.

hope this helps
