Question I am new to quilting and am constructing a wall hanging. I would like to make a pillow, next. I understand the wall hanging and the 3 layers for quilting. My question is when making a pillow, does the front of the pillow have 3 layers and then another piece of fabric for the back of the pillow? It seems to me that the pillow top will be quite thick and the back would be so much thinner. Thank you.
Answer Hi, Karen,
Yes, the front of the pillow consists of 3 layers which are quilted together. The backside of the pillow cover is simply there to hold the quilted side onto the pillow form, per se. It's thin, but it's just the backing and not expected to be shown.
If you look at embroidered pillows, they use a single layer of fabric on the backside as well.
You could always choose to use TWO quilted sides around the pillow form, but only one could be displayed at a time.
