Subject: snowball quilt block formula

Question
Hello! I am making a quilt with 14 inch blocks. I would like to know the formula
for making a snowball block to go with it. I can't find a chart anywhere to show
me what size to cut the little squares for the corners.  Thanking you in advance
for any help. I am a new quilter!

Answer
HI Pamela
I do not believe there is a chart.  I looked at several snowball patterns and the ratio of the little square to the big square varied a lot.

One was 3 to 1, or 1/3 the size of the square, another was a little larger.

on a 12 block I found that a 4 7/8 square cut into 2 triangles was used for the corner.

I suggest that before cutting fabric try out different sizes to see what looks best to you.

Most seem to be 1/3 or a little more of the foundation square.
