Expert: Michael Dean Date: 10/25/2007 Subject: Long term side effects from nicotine gum?
Question I quit smoking several years ago. But I occasionally crave nicotine so I chew nicotine gum.
Are there any long term irreversible side effects from chewing nicotine gum?
Answer Dear Emil,
That is great that you have stayed quit.
No there is nothing wrong with an occasional fix of nicotine. It is actually a safe drug. The problem with tobacco is all the other chemicals and carcinogens.
You are apparently still a bit addicted, but as long as you don't smoke, your health is not being damaged.
