Question Hello, I am 17 and my mom is trying to quit smoking. She is 34 and has been smoking for more then half of her life. She just got a 10 week nicoderm cq program from our health insurance. I was wondering how effective the patch is. She has 6 weeks of step 1 2 weeks of step 2 and 2 weeks of step 3. She is really excited and starting tommorow. Is there also anything I can do to give moral support? Something I can help her with? I quit smoking not too long ago. (Last cigarette was may 31 this year) ( I am very proud of myself) But it was easy for me and I was only smoking for a year and a half. So my two questions in summary are:
1) What are the chances of the Nicoderm CQ patch working. (How sufficient is it)
2) What can I do to help her out during this stressful time.
3) (I just remembered) My Stepdad is also a smoker and he is 48 and has been smoking sense he was 14. He also is going to start the Nicoderm thing but we have yet to order the patches. Should he start quitting at the same time as my mom or is it best that he tries after my mom quits. Is it easier if they are both doing it at the same time?
THanks soooo much for your time. I appreciate all of this.
Answer 1) It's all her will power. If she wants she can quit with or without patch. It depends on her willpower again. Tell her to focus on being healthy.
2) It's not a stressful time rather tell her it's step towards her happiness and healthy living of future.
3) Sure that's good to start together as it will give him motivation to start a healthy living also. All you need in life is one reason to quit and start a healthy living body. Life changes once you start a healthy life.
