Subject: Einstein quotation?

Question
"I never commit to memory anything that can easily be looked up in a book."

I usually hear that quotation attributed to Albert Einstein (and occasionally to Thomas Edison or Arthur Conan Doyle), but I have never found a citation. Can you tell me if Einstein actually did say it, and if so, when and where?

Thank you.

Answer
A lot of Einstein quotes were not said by Einstein. The thing is it's hard to tell which ones were and weren't. I don't know where Einstein said this quote, yet I remember this quote from a book and according to the author Einstein said it. That doesn't mean much. Someone still could have said it and than someone said he said it. Maybe you can ask the Wikiquote site for help.

Good luck and sorry.
