About Danny K Expertise I can answer questions you may have on quotations of people. You can either give me a quote, to see if I can identify the author, or give me a person, and I will look for quotes attributed to him or her.
Experience I am a trivia nut, and a New York Yankee fan, so, from that, I have developed a liking of quotes, such as those of Yogi Berra, or even movie stars.
Question Hi Danny, Jon stuart Mills wrote "War is a terrible thing, but not the most terrible. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic..." I had this at one time in my office in a frame superimposed over the American flag, but it walked away. I am trying to recreate this but cannot find the correct words anywhere. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bruce
Answer Bruce,
Excellent quote. Here it is:
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself" -- John Stuart Mill
