Question
I am not so sure if this is a "Quotation" but it is a phrase that I hear often used. I would like you to please tell me what "a pound of flesh" means?

Thats all.

Thanks,

Julia Johnson

Answer
hi julia
'a pound of flesh' means a payment or penalty which is strictly due but which it is ruthless or inhuman to demand.
it is with allusion to shakespeare the merchant of venice, and shylock's insistence that he had the right to take the pound of antonio's flesh promised in the bargain between them.-angelina
