Question
Hi. thank you for taking time to read this. First let me say
that im not very good at english because it is my second
language, and i am also very lazy to look up this info
myself, so i thought i would ask an expert. What does it
mean when someone tells another person to 'Take him with
a grain of salt'? Its been bothering me for days now and i
would like to know what it means. thanks : )

Answer
Hi Roman
To take with a pinch or grain of salt means to regard something as exaggerated and believe only part of.
The idea comes from the fact that food is more easily swallowed if taken with a small amount of salt. Pliny the elder translated an ancient antidote for poison with the words 'be taken fasting, plus a grain of salt'. The phrase has only been in use since the 17th century though.
Hope this answers your question
