About Nicholas Pemberton
Expertise
I have been an R.E.M. fan for at least 7 years now. I have all their LPs, over 30 singles, 7 videos, and 5 books, so I am sure that I can answer any question related to the music of REM itself. I also am sort of familiar with REM band bios, so I most likely can answer any question about a band member.

Experience
I am very familiar with the work of R.E.M. I have read several books and articles about them. I also frequent the different music news sites to get up to date information on what they are working on. I have been an expert on expertcentral.com, and have successfully answered every question asked of me.

Organizations
I am a member of the R.E.M. fanclub. I am also on a really good R.E.M. list group. I was also an expert on expertcentral.com.

Publications
No where.

Education/Credentials
Some college.

Awards and Honors
American Legion Award in eighth grade, but that has nothing to do with R.E.M.

Question
Hi, Im a huge fan of REM, but I havent heard much abouth them lately. Is there a new album on the horizon? Ive been waiting ever since "up"! Also, is it possible that REM, or Michael Stipe is currently in the New York area? I think I might have seen him.  Also, any tours within the next few years?

Answer
R.E.M. has been incredibly busy in the last year.  Currently, they are in South Beach, FL right now mixing down their new album which is scheduled for release in March/April of 2001.  They have recorded in Dublin, Vancouver, and their hometown of Athens.
R.E.M. has also been in the news lately with the release of their new fan club vinyl single.  It contains a cover of the Beatles' "Christmas Time (is here again)" and on the flip side are two new R.E.M. instrumentals called "Hastings and Main" and "Take Seven".  I received my package last week and the instrumentals are great.  If these new songs are any glimpse as to what R.E.M. are going to release on their new album, it's going to be one fantastic R.E.M. CD.
Besides two shows in South America in January, I don't know if R.E.M. are planning a tour in support of their new album.  I'm sure that if they do, they won't announce the tour until after the album is out.
You can keep up on R.E.M. news by occassionally checking the official R.E.M. site at www.remhq.com, subscribing to a really reliable and good R.E.M. news service at www.murmurs.com, or just joining an R.E.M. eclub on egroups.com.  If you do go to www.murmurs.com, they have a clip of R.E.M. performing their new song "I've Been High" at Land Aid about a month or two ago.  Just search the news archives.
I hope this helped.

Nicholas

P.S.  I assume all R.E.M. fans like a little Radiohead too, so I'll include this bit of info.  The new Radiohead album "Amnesiac" is also going to be released this spring.  I'm looking forward to this release as well.
