About Nicholas Pemberton Expertise I have been an R.E.M. fan for at least 7 years now. I have all their LPs, over 30 singles, 7 videos, and 5 books, so I am sure that I can answer any question related to the music of REM itself. I also am sort of familiar with REM band bios, so I most likely can answer any question about a band member.

Question i have heard that before his death, Kurt Cobain of Nirvana said that they were going to do a project with REM. i have also read that they (Kurt and Michael Stipe) were good friends. do you know where i could find some more info about their friendship, because i have a friend that likes nirvana, and we thought it would be cool if our favorite bands were connected somehow.
Answer I have read and seen several items on Courtney Love and they usually contain some reference to the relationship between Kurt and Michael. According to the VH1 program "Behind the Music" on R.E.M., Courtney said that Michael and Kurt would just talk about "stuff" on the phone for hours, and that it was nice for her to see that Kurt had a real friend because according to her Kurt didn't have any. I also read in a biography on Courtney that it was the then-wife of R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck that actually introduced Kurt and Courtney. I did hear the rumor that Kurt and Michael were supposed to work together musically until Kurt's tragic death in April 1994. There is also a rumor that Kurt was exploring his sexuality before his death and that Kurt and Michael were sexually involved with each other.
