RC Model Airplanes/Cars/Boats - Twin engine: disable one BEC??

Expert: Ken Myers - 1/29/2008

Question
Hy Ken,
I recently read a couple of posts on forums that said it is better to disable the BEC of one of the ESCs on a twin engine.
Is it true and why?
Thanks as always,
Philippe

Answer
Hi Philippe,

Only one BEC is used in any system.  The BEC on the other controller is disabled by freeing the red wire.  Why?  Basically, one BEC doesn't know what the other is doing electronically.  When receiver batteries are used, they are sometimes paralleled for higher capacity, but because a BEC is electronic with lots of "stuff" going on, they really don't like to "work" in parallel.

Sincerely,
Ken
