RC Model Airplanes/Cars/Boats - building a magnetic coil servo

Expert: Ken Myers - 2/10/2008

Question
I recently bought and then flew and eventually broke a Palm-Z mini airplane they work with an infrared controller. The rudder is controlled buy a small coil with a magnet on a pivot.
They look very simple and i would like to make something like it to use with a standard radio controller and receiver. My question actually is about connecting this to the receiver. I see a normal servo has 3 wires connecting it to the receiver. Can this be applied to a magnetic coil servo that consists of a coil with 2 wires.?

I am a bit new to R/c stuff but am 40 years old and am pretty handy at making stuff as i am a cabinet maker and builder

Answer
Hi Robert,

I'm not familiar with micro RC gear and actuators, but Plantraco specializes in it.

This is the page to their actuators.

I see they have a kit.  This might help you in developing your own.

Good luck with your plans,
Ken
