About Ken Myers
Expertise
I can answer beginning, advanced and expert questions about electrically powered R/C model aircraft, and many questions about R/C model aircraft of all types, except helicopters. I`ve been building, flying and designing R/C model aircraft for 40 years.

Experience
I have been building and flying radio controlled model aircraft since 1960. I'm the president of the Electric Flyers Only, Inc., located in southeasten Michigan. I'm a past president of the National Electric Aircraft Council. I'm vice-president of the Midwest R/C Society. I was president and main founder of the UFO (Union Lake Flying Organization). RC Model Airplanes/Cars/Boats - How to 2ch Flying Yaw controll with Twin Engines and no rudder

Question
Hi! A number of intro planes are twin engine, two channel set-ups. I have a few of these that my son started with when he was 5.  The older ones are getting old and the nimhs don't have much life left in them.  I was interested in updating the batteries and the electronics, just for fun, but realized I have no idea how to set up yaw control by controlling the relative engine speed in a twin engine model.  Do I need two ESCs one for each prop? On one channel I would want them to throttle up together. I would want the other channel to cause one motor to spin-up relative to the other depending on the stick input.(left-right) Any ideas on how to wire this, or a place to find a plan for that?

Answer
HI Steve,

You would need two electronic speed controls and a transmitter that allows mixing.  Using the supplied electronics would be best, as they're designed them to work in that manner.

If you want to learn more, I would recommend that you go to RC Groups, join if you are not a member, so that you can use the Search.  Search for thrust steering

I don't know if this link will work out right, but these are the results I found:

This is really a very, very advanced skill to master.  The engineering on some of these "toy" planes is amazing.  Much better than the average RC modeler does.

Good luck with your project,
Ken
