RC Model Airplanes/Cars/Boats - Starting my rc boat

Expert: Martin Seymour - 3/20/2008

Question
First time owning a gas rc boat. No instructions for starting. It runs on 90 plus octane gas with a proportion of oil. It is a 26cc 2 stroke water cooled SH motor. Can you give me a short summary for first time starting and adjustments?

Answer
Hi Nigel.
I will assume that the engine is ready mounted in the boat with the fuel tank exhaust and cooling pipes are all ready installed!
The hull is standing on its own stand/cradle and the prop is clear of the ground ! also that the engine has a start handle/cord and all is in good condition.
Fill the tank with with right amount off petrol /oil mix. The carburetor will probably have a plastic bulb attached to one side, give  this a few squeezes until you see the fuel arrive at this point .
You are now ready to start the engine . if the carburetor is fitted with a choke lever close this !
check the ignition switch is ON.
close the throttle .
With the boat on the ground --you are better kneeling on the left side of the hull, put your left hand on top of the engine and with your right hand pull the starter cord several times it should start or at least fire a couple of times . if not open the throttle a little and try again.
When it is running for about 30 sec open the choke slowly. and you are ready to go.
Martin
