RC Model Airplanes/Cars/Boats - truck goes crazy

Expert: Matt Coia - 3/14/2008

Question
QUESTION: i have 1/10 scale 4wd battery powered race truck. When I turn on my controler it goes crazy(forward, backward, wheels turning)out of control. any advise would be great. im lost!

ANSWER: Hi Chip,

Some more info on the brand/model of truck you have would be helpful.  Common causes for this behavior would be: loose crystal in controller or receiver, incorrect crystal in controller or receiver, outside interference from another source, or low batteries in controller.

Good luck.
Matt

QUESTION: Matt, I checked the crystals they seem to be ok. the truck is a "speedy cobra MT-X4" the crystals in it come with the truck, could they be bad? one is a zgc 26 mhz and other a 27. batteries are new. Im new at this hobby. Starting to think i got the wrong truck.  Thanks for your help,  Chip

Answer
Hey Chip,

Has the truck ever worked properly?  As far as I know the crystals should be identical other than one saying "transmitter" and the other "receiver".  If you really think you'd like to get into the r/c hobby, I would look at finding a truck that offers better features, a solid reputation, and easy to get replacement parts.  You should be able to find some decent ones for not much more than you spent on the "Speedy Cobra".

Let me know.
Matt
