Subject: powering an rc boat

Question
im new to this, first rc build. I have worked on VEX robots, a FIRST robot and a losi buggy, but never a boat. i am try to build a six foot long barge a foot and a half wide. it is supposed to land rc planes on it. i just need to know batteries, and if the graupner jet drives would be enough thrust

Answer
Hi Robert,

That sounds like an awesome project!  Looking at the specs on the jet drives, I think they would be fine. You're not looking to set any speed records and I think they would give you excellent control over the craft. As far as batteries go, there are many fine batteries out there. These days you'll probably find decent prices on 3800mah NiMH packs. Just make sure you have a good charger for them. Depending on how much run time you need, you may want to run a couple packs in parallel to double your capacity. Good luck and keep me posted!

Matt
