Question
What would be best Walbro carb for a 42cc gas motor going into a replica TOP FUEL hydroplane 1/5th scale. hull will be leaving from a standing start running a 264' track straight then shutting down for retrieval. Motor needs to wind up fast.

Answer
HI   ERIC
THIS IS A MATTER OF EXPERIMENTING LIKE ANY NEW SETUP PARTICULARLY A RACING SETUP THE SIZE COULD BE ANY THING FROM 1/2 INCH TO ONE INCH CHOKE DIAMETER. MEASURED ON THE ENGINE SIDE OF THE CARB!
WHAT CARB DID IT HAVE ORIGINALLY? YOU COULD ALSO MEASURE THE INLET MANIFOLD SIZE ON THE ENGINE ITS SELF!! AND MATCH THIS TO THE NEW CARB!
YOU WILL HAVE MANY OTHER ASPECTS TO SORT OUT WITH A NEW BOAT BEFORE CHANGING THE CARBURETORS.

EVEN IF YOU GET THE RIGHT SIZE THE FIRST TIME YOU STILL NEED TO GET THE NEEDLE SETTING RIGHT SO THERE IS ANOTHER VARIABLE ------ TRY A 5/8 DIA TO START AS A COMPROMISE SET THE NEEDLES TO 1 1/2 TURNS OUT EACH AND START HER UP .PUT HER IN THE WATER BUT HOLD ON TO IT FIRMLY OPEN THE THROTTLE IF IT STALLS OPEN THE 'H' NEEDLE A 1/4 TURN AND TRY AGAIN.
LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GET ON.
MARTIN
