RC Model Airplanes/Cars/Boats - Basic Aircraft Design

Question
Hello:
I am looking at designing a very simple trainer- style aircraft to carry an all- up weight of 4 kg as a platform for a camera and so forth....sort of a testbed for bits and pieces. I know that I could do it cheaper by getting one RTF off-the-shelf, however want to be part of the entire process, from conceptual design and construction, up till the final crash (eventually I am sure). I am not looking at an unusual design, but rather I wish to have a hi- wing, simple and stable aircraft. I want to come up with all the numbers for the aircraft to aid in further understanding before tackling more difficult designs, rather than just 'eyeing' the correct proportions. Things like tail moment arm, tail surface areas, etc are the sorts of things I want to calculate. Can you point me to the best place to find these sorts of calculations? I would ideally like a simple step-by-step design of a similar aircraft. I haven't been able to find one despite much effort.

Kind regards,

Reuven

Answer
Hi Reuven,

I believe that you will find Carlos Reyes book Model Airplane Design Made Easy a good place to start.

His products page is here.

You should be able to come up with a good, functional design once you understand the basic principles in his book.

Enjoy the learning process,
Ken
