AboutKen Myers Expertise I can answer beginning, advanced and expert questions about electrically
powered R/C model aircraft, and many questions about R/C model aircraft of
all types, except helicopters. I`ve been building, flying and designing R/C
model aircraft for 40 years.
Experience I have been building and flying radio controlled model aircraft since 1960. I'm the president of the Electric Flyers Only, Inc., located in southeasten Michigan. I'm a past president of the National Electric Aircraft Council. I'm vice-president of the Midwest R/C Society. I was president and main founder of the UFO (Union Lake Flying Organization). I've built and flown most types of model aircraft except helicopters.
Question My 7 year old son and I have thoroughly enjoyed our Easy Star, but without ailerons it really cannot deal with much wind or do acrobatics. I have really appreciated the quick repair of the foam and the simplicity of electric power. Without a trainer, I expect that will remain important in the future.
Increasing the rudder size helped the handling enormously and we are thinking of adding ailerons, but a new plane may be a better solution. What planes might you suggest ??
Answer Hi Dale,
Love that EasyStar as a primary trainer! :-)
You might like the Multiplex Minimag. It can be set up with ailerons, if desired. There are also optional floats for it, if that interests you. There is an excellent review by Thayer Syme in the current (December 2007) issue of FlyRC magazine. You should be able to get FlyRC at bookstores and hobby shops. There is also an excellent Buyers Guide for trainers, including aileron trainers, as part of that issue. All around, I'd suggest that you get it, even if you have to order it from FlyRC. Their website is http://www.flyrc.com. The Dec. '07 issue probably has all the information you are looking for.
