RV Repair - Can't get top to come down on pop-up

Expert: C J S - 11/8/2008

Question
I cannot get the top to come down on my pop-up camper.  I heard a "pop" and the post that receives the handcrank shifted off its original base.  How can i get the top back down.  I'm wanting to get rid of the camper to whomever will come and get it.

Answer
Do you live near Detroit?  I would come get that camper.  Seriously, reply if you do live nearby.

The Pop you heard is either a cable snapping, or the crank bracket breaking, or comming loose.  You need to remove access panels to get to the crank.  You can probably see this along the floor under the front bed.  The cables run along the wall away from the entry door.  Then along the other bed.  They are in channels.  Make sure you support the roof before messing with these cables.  High tension could cause the cable to snap back at you.  I attached a pic for making this more sense.  I can only send one pic on this site.

Hope this helps.
