Subject: duo therm heater

Question
I bought and older coachmen camper and the previous owner said that there was a problem with the heater. he said it stays on and the thermostat would not shut it down or regulate the temp.the heater is a duo therm heater and I check continuity at the heater itself and found that there is a connection at all times what can you recommend and if you require further info on this heater i will find as much as i can for you. it looks like the stock heater, its in a coachmen 11FD camper and its a duo therm heater
Thanks
Lance D

Answer
Lance, There will be 2 connections there with continuity. They will be the red or positive wire and one of the blue wires. What you want to check for is to see if there is continuity between the 2 blue wires or the wires that go to the T-Stat. I would pull the T-Stat and disconnect it and see if it continues to run. If not then replace the T-Stat. If it does then there is a problem with the way it is wired and if you can describe to me the way it is wired then I can help you through the rest. There should be 4 wires going to the furnace. I will need to know colors of each, coming from the coach and then from the furnace. Thanks, Bill
