Rabbits - my poor bunny died and i want to know why

Question
My Netherland dwarf bunny Hopper just died in my arms and i am sick with grief. Why did he die? Was it something i did? I have three dogs, three cats, and a ferret(beside Hopper). They all get along very well other than the occasional chases that occur when the bunny was being frisky and chasing the cats. Is it possible that hopper died from a cat or ferret bite somehow? He was barely moving when i got home and he went limp in my arms, at which point i freaked out and called the emergency vet clinic. Once again, they screwed me over and didn't even call back until he was already dead.(Same thing happened with pit bulls I was trying to save, they were late and they died in my arms! Anyway, my baby died in my arms after having a small seizure. Any help would be extremely grateful.

Hi Chris. I don't know for sure why your bunny died because I don't know anything about your bunny. His age, type, previous health issues etc. However, I can tell you a couple of things that you may not know. It is NEVER safe to let a cat around your rabbits. A cat bite or scratch can be deadly to a rabbit. Cats have a bacteria on their teeth and claws that rabbits are very susceptible to. It gets in their blood and kills them. Even the slightest break in the skin can be just enough to kill. Rabbits can have all of the same illnesses that people have. Strokes, cancer, heart problems, kidney failure, just to name a few. It is not possible to quess what it might have been. The one thing that I do know is that you are suffering from the loss or you wouldn't have written me. It is never easy to loose our little friends. Sometimes they are our best or only friends. Sometimes they are more than friends, they are family. I am sad that you could not get help in time, but I am glad that Hopper did not linger and suffer. Cherish his memory, we are here for only a little while and every moment we can spend with those we love is a treasure. I wish you peace with this and I will be thinking of you. Pat
