AboutDana Krempels, Ph.D. Expertise I've lived with companion rabbits for more than 35 years, and consider them members of my family. I can answer any questions about the biology and health of rabbits, from the commonplace to the unusual. But please note:
RULE #1: THE INTERNET IS NOT THE PLACE TO SEEK HELP IN AN EMERGENCY.
If your rabbits is LETHARGIC
If your rabbit is NOT EATING
If your rabbit is PHYSICALLY INJURED (including broken bones)
If your baby rabbit has DIARRHEA
...it is an EMERGENCY.
Find a rabbit-savvy veterinarian at www.rabbit.org/vets for immediate help, and don't risk your bunny's life by spending time asking questions online!
RULE #2:
Help me help you! Please make your subject line informative if you have an urgent question.
If you already have been to the vet and still need help
if you can't find an available vet with the resources above
then LET ME KNOW IN THE SUBJECT LINE so I can give your question highest priority over non-urgent questions. If you don't do this, then I can't guarantee timely assistance!

Question I took my bunny to the vet because he was having diarrhea and he gave us some endosorb, and we gave it to him, on that same day we took him, he was not eating or drinking, so we mentioned that. Then on the second day, he didnt eat at all nor did he drink, I took him to the vet immediately, and he gave me some nutri-cal, and gave him some metroniduzale, I don't know if I'm spelling it right. He still is not eating or drinking, the vet told me that it's not intestinal blockage since hes not bloated, I just really need a second opinion, because I think that he will die. He's been grinding teeth loudly, and had some kind of discharge from his anal area, like clear jelly like, I was cleaning his bottom and I just pulled it out. Should we force feed him? What should I do?
Answer OOPS.

{Your bunny is suffering from enteritis, and thought he metronidazole (Reglan) your vet gave you is a good start,}
I wasn't reading carefully. Metronidazole (brand name Flagyl) is an antibiotic that might help control an overgrowth of Clostridium bacteria in the gut, but it will NOT remove the potentially very deadly toxins produced by those bacteria if the intestinal tract is not moving. Your bunny is in ileus, which you can read about in the article I gave you before:
www.bio.miami.edu/hare/ileus.html
I am guessing that this vet is more familiar with dogs and cats than rabbits, which could explain the Flagyl (which would work if this were being caused by a parasitic flagellate called Giardia). You really need to find a rabbit vet who will prescribe proper treatment for ileus, including gut motility drugs (metoclopramide and/or cisapride) and the other things listed in the ileus article.
Please waste no time. Your bunny needs to see another vet who knows about rabbits! Find one here:
