Expert: Andy Blatt Date: 1/30/2008 Subject: Call Letters
Question I desire to start a radio station. How do I purchase call letters. And if I have some if nobody has them yet can I request them
Answer You need to hire a broadcast attorney to look into that for you.
The information is available from the FCC - Federal Communications Commission but you'll need the services of a lawyer as your liasion between them and you. Also, call letters are not purchased, they are assigned by the FCC. If someone already has call letters that you want, you can ask your lawyer to negotiate with them in order to buy theirs (and they will then have to change their call letters). Check some of the Broadcasting magazines for lawyers listed inside.
