Question Hi,
I was misdiagnosed for 2 years for crohn's. I lost over 45lbs which left me at 92lbs when I hit the crisis point and had to have critical surgery to remove 2 1/2ft. of intestine. I am going over my Acute Abdomen Series and need to know what the followings means please.
-haustra of the colon outlined throughout its length
-opacity of calcific density to the left L1 4mm by less than 2mm transversly of the left renal area.
-2 tiny opacities of calcific density in the right lobe of the liver.
-air fluid levels shown over right mid lower abdomen
-intestinal shadowing largely obscures the renal areas and the pelvic cavity.
-right border of the liver is prominent
-the configuration is more suggestive of a Riedel's lobe than of the hepatomegaly though not excluded.

Answer 1. Haustra is the appearance of the colon - in this case means the contrast is doing it's job
2. Something that is calcified is seen near the 1st lumbar vertebrae and is positioned near the left kidney
3. 2 calcified (things...does not say what they are) are seen on your liver
4. air-fluid levels...this is the air and fluid seen in your bowel
5. The intestine is covering the kidney areas and some of the pelvis
6. right boarder of the kidney is somewhat enlarged and may be a condition known as Riedel's lobe rather than enlargement of the liver
