People always ask me over the years about the nature of their exams and I have to advise them accordingly. IRM show lesion in the brain stem and go a radiotherapy ( 31 sessions). radiotheary finished on 2 july 2009 (no other treatments).
yesterday, we notice a weakness on her right hand.
after consultation her doctor said the weakness is caused by
radiotherapy and give her decadron a request a follow up IRM.
can radiotheray cause a weakness of her hand?
can follow up IRM be done after only 2 months?

regards,

Answer
Hello namir, Thanks for your question. The double vision is possibly the result of the radiation treatments she had. These are common in patients who have had radiation treatments done to the brain. There can be either acute changes taking place immediately following the treatments or changes which are chronic, appearing over a period of time. Yes, the therapy can cause the hand weakness which should resolve shortly. The follow up IRM can be done after 2 months, but I would urge you to check with the doctor as to why this course of action was taken. Keep a close follow-up. Regards.
