Radiology/Large divot in my right thigh

I have this too on my left leg. I'm a 35 year old female, in decent shape and probably noticed it in my late 20's. Doctors have said don't worry about it..after doing some surfing, lots of others have the same thing.

The only thing I notice that I do often is lean against that side of my leg while applying makeup or getting closer to the mirror...maybe after years of doing this I "dented" myself.

Mysteries of the human body....

They would be checking the lumbar region because that is where the peripheral nerves for the legs exit the spinal column. If there was some impingement of nerves in the lumbar region then it is possible that some muscles had atrophied causing the divot.

The reason I found this post is because I have been experiencing the same problem and decided to search it out. This morning I realized why the divot is there...I lean against the bathroom sink every morning in the same location and I might have displaced some fat. It appears from other people on other sites that the displacement can be permanent. Oh, well.

Funny, I have a very similar 'divet'... also ruptured disks in the L-4 / L-5 region. I would love to know why it suddenly appeared.

I am experiencing something very similar to what you are describing. I had surgery on my ankle 11 weeks ago with a local block. I've been doing exercises with physical therapy and just noticed this divot in my lateral thigh region about a week ago. I asked the orthopedic surgeon about it today and he wasn't sure what it was. He thought if I wanted to we could do an MRI, but it didn't seem like there would be any clear treatment and there was no associated pain, so I opted out of that.

It does seem strange that we are both experiencing this and had surgery in about the same timeframe. I think I am most upset about the way it looks and less concerned about any serious cause.

I developed exactly the same thing, same place.... about 5 months after giving birth to twins. I was wondering what this was all about, freaking out of course, and I am still waiting for my MRI appointment. Is this hormonal? Did someone give me a shot there? I have no idea. Thanks for posting and if anyone has follow-ups or more info, it is appreciated!!
