Subject: grade crossing bell

Question
I bet I get you on this one. I found a crossing bell (U.S & S. Co.) patented Feb.20-1917  number 136397 looks good but how many volts does it take to work.  AC  or DC  Thanks Joe

Answer
Joe, i can not tell this without actually having a look at it. But i feel it should be a 10v dc bell as other equipments at crossing used this voltage (download a pdf from this link--- http://www.trainweb.org/dansrailpix/USSdw.pdf)

you can firstly try with 10v dc and if it works but gives feeble sound try with 24v.

we can only find out this with trial and error method.
Other option would be to get in touch with US&S.

hope it helps.

Regards,
Akhilesh
