Question
Couldn't tell you how I got to this page and why im even doing this but, hey, why not give it a shot. So I have a couple of questions, maybe you could help me out. First off I've been writing for about 3 years now, im 18, and started to record not too long ago. I think I have what it takes to get somewhere, my friends even say so. Thing is the equipment that me and my friend use isn't..(don't know if this is the word).. complimenting..my skill. Do you think any big names who would hear my music would see past that? And also I have just finished my first solo song and wanted to put it out there, not like on the radio, but on the web, I've already put it on myspace but are there any sites where any famous rappers would stumble apon it? And one more question...am I rushing too much? I barely have three years under my belt and only a few songs and one alone, but I have sooo much written and I feel it needs to be heard. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Oh and what do you think of the rap name Eddie Money? Too cheesy? Lol let me know. Thanks again in advance.

Answer
Right now you have to have a fan base in order to get signed. I actually know the New Boyz who are currentyl 17 and 18 I think and what they did to get signed was post a video on youtube and work hard on myspace. The same goes for Souljaboy. You have to become a youtube or myspace celebrity in order to get signed now a days. So work hard post funny video blogs along with your music and you will catch someones attention. The thing is to work fast and get your videos and music online posted fast. It wouldn't hurt to pay $500 dollars or so for a professionally designed myspace page. Also, if you have a budget of at least $100-$300 a month I know someone that could help you with the promotion. The main thing is you have to invest in yourself in order to get someone to invest in you. So here are a few tips

1- Post multiple funny videos on youtube
2- Professionally designed myspace page
3- Make a plan and be consistent
4- If this is your career choice then take it seriously.
5- Consider taking some business or marketing courses if you don't have any money
because if you can't pay for marketing services you will have to do it yourself.

Hope this helps. Getting discovered without a fan base is almost impossible these days, because
of the internet most people think it is very possible to build a fan base online. Most artists and labels want the car rolling before they get in. In other words they want to see how much you will do for yourself.
