Question
I am a big fan of 50 ncent and g-unit. What is goin on with the recent record sales. 50's album Curtis did horrible in the first week compared to his first two. Lloyd Banks and Young Bucks newer albums didnt do so well either. What is goin on with G-Unit.Is Hip Hop dying out or is it the hip hop police. O and do u know when Dre's new album Detox will come out. Thanks Man

Answer
50 Cent's album is doing great compared to other artists. He sold 650,000 copies in the first week. The second biggest rap album of the year. First Kanye, then 50 Cent and then T.I with 450,000 copies in the first week. Dr. Dre pushed back his album and there is no date set because he is working hard on Eminem's album and other Aftermath projects, like Joell Ortiz.
50 Cents album is platinum, I don't think officially U.S yet but internationally. Hip-hop is not dying, but I think all music sales are down not just hip-hop. Most people are listening to music online for free. Myspace, Youtube are the most popular sites and people upload music. Most people are on their computers all the time so it is convenient to listen online. Downloading also damaged sales because people now have a choice to only get one song. We created a generation of single buyers. The internet killed record sales but the music industry is so far behind they didn't think that the internet was going to be so big so they weren't prepared for what happened. In order for sales to go up again the music industry is going to have to embrace the internet and start to develop different packages for internet users. I think it would be great to be able to download an album, photos, video, and games all at the same time. Then they could charge more money and try to get sales going in a better direction.

Hope this helps

Antoine
