Rave/House/Techno Music/DJ's vs. Composers

Question
Is there a difference between a DJ and an electronic music composer, or are the terms interchangeable?

Answer
Hi Mike,

ah a simple question really! Put simply, a composer (usually called a producer or music artist) is the one who writes the tune, and the DJ is the one who plays the tune as part of a mix set, whether at a party, club or whatever.

There's usually some confusion because a lot of amateur bedroom producers like to call themselves "DJ whatever", but DJs and producers are usually completely separate.

I myself am a producer as I make music and I've got an album on the way, which DJs will be playing out to nightclubs and so on.

Hope this helps!
