Question Hi Steven,
I am getting confused with all the electronica genres out there.
I like to listen to electronic music but the problem is that I find my favorite songs incidentally.
Nowadays, I am listening to "Resurrection" by PPK and "Pitchin" by Louie Devito. What is the genre of this music? who are the most popular musicians and dj's in this genre? what CD's, that match this kind of music, do u recommend me to buy?
Thanks in advance.
Answer Hi T.A.
It's becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish genres in electronic music, simply because many artists and DJs now decide to incorporate features of more than one genre in their songs and sets.
The Pitchin track you mention is actually by production duo Hi-Gate (my favourite producers!), and appeared on one of Louie Devito's mix CDs. Hi-Gate are a combination of Judge Jules and Paul Masterson (also famous under the alias "Yomanda"). The track was their first, but they have produced many others worth looking at also.
Resurrection is an amazing track, with a fantastic breakdown. I had the pleasure of hearing a DJ set by PPK about 2 months ago, and it was the best set I've ever heard.
I'm honestly not sure what you would call the genre of the tracks, but I would take a stab at a form of "melodic trance". PPK call themselves "Russian Trance" but this seems wrong to me since there are many non-Russian producers maning similar music.
I would recommend listening to some other music by PPK, particularly their track "Reload". Also listen to some other Hi-Gate tracks, although many are different to the one you like. Try their other tracks, but in particular for your style try "Caned & Unable" and "De-Tune (Earplugs).
Other tracks to try are:
Minimalistix - Close Cover (Original & 4 Strings Mixes)
The Clergy - The Oboe Song (Original and Tillman Uhrmacher Mixes)
Tillman Uhrmacher - On The Run (Original and Minimalistix Mixes)
Rank 1 -Airwave
Square - Nova (4 Strings Remix)
Warrior - If You Want Me
Ian Van Dahl - Try (Michael Woods and Tillman Uhrmacher Mixes)
Vengaboys - Kiss (Airscape Mix) [HONESTLY!!!]
Album-wise, if you like the Minimalistix tracks I recommend, they have an album forthcoming called "Elements".
If there is anything else you would like to ask, feel free to do so!
