I know a lot about techno music itself, ask me if you would like suggestions for songs you should listen to. You can be extremely specific when you tell me what type of techno you want to hear, because I`ve heard a lot of it. For example, you can say `give me titles of some trance songs that are over 150 bpm` or `give me titles of some jungle songs that are heavy on the `bass` and not too heavy on the `drums`. If you are new to the techno genre, I can tell you about most of the different genres of electronic music. Meaning, I`ll explain what one is, and compare it to others. I don`t know much about Gabber or a ton about house, but I know the most about trance, dance (classic and new), jungle and happy hardcore. I have played classical piano and oboe since I was 5 and 11 (respectively) so if you are into classical but want to start listening to some techno, I can suggest some starter songs for you. I`m interested in helping more people learn about techno music because it is fairly unknown in some areas (like NH).

Experience
Well let's put it this way... we all know that everyone steals music so I won't claim not to fit this description. However, I am also willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money to see my favorite artists live in concert to support them, and buy their CDs when I've sampled tracks (I'm cautious like that). If I don't, then it's their fault for not playing within 200 miles of me! Believe me if I had enough time to travel to Europe I would.

Rave/House/Techno Music - Electronica genres

Expert: Kirby - 2/12/2003

Question
Hi Kirby,
I am getting confused with all the electronica genres out there.
I like to listen to electronic music but the problem is that I find my favorite songs incidentally.
Nowadays, I am listening to "Resurrection" by PPK and "Pitchin" by Louie Devito. What is the genre of this music? who are the most popular musicians and dj's in this genre? what CD's, that match this kind of music, do u recommend me to buy?

Thanks in advance.
T.A.

Answer
Woah, I don't believe I didn't think of this before, the song 'Pitchin' by Hi-gate bears an uncanny resemblance to Fiocco - The Crowd is moving, another good song. Download that song and you'll be shocked at how similar the two songs are, although the Fiocco seems to be obscure in comparison...

Hello...
Actually, the Pitchin song is Hi-Gate - Pitchin probably from Louie DeVito's album NYC Underground Party volume 3. So I think you'd also like the other songs on this album. Cooincidentally though, since you asked who are the most popular DJs in this genre, I believe recently Louie DeVito was recently ranked America's #1 selling DJ, even above Paul Oakenfold. So you might want to try some of his other mix albums. As for PPK I don't know all their songs but I love their song called 'Feel2k (DJ Zoomer remix)'. People love to subcategorize trance music as well as other electronica genres, but since often they will differ in opinions on what genre things fall into and then the whole organization system becomes even less helpful than before it existed, I'll just say these songs fall into the trance/dance/house genre. If you like those songs I think you'd probably like these albums, or if you can't get the albums try downloading some songs from them after getting the tracklists on amazon.com...

Trance Nation America 2 mixed by George Acosta and ATB
Trance Party volume 2 (don't get volume 1 the songs aren't nearly as interesting)
Tunnel Trance Force vol. 21
DJ Micro Tech-Mix live

Some of the popular DJs in this genre of whom I think you'd like albums in general are: George Acosta, Louie DeVito, DJ Jurgen, Scott Bond (who mixes the Gatecrasher compilation CDs...you should try any of those, and I'm sure you'd love them, my personal favorite is called 'Wet' and it's been one of my favorite albums for a very long time), Paul Oakenfold (you'd probably like his older albums rather than the more recent one(s), especially the one containing the word 'Ibiza' I can't remember the whole title)...

Good luck in your search, and on finding your favorite songs accidentally, I still do that 99% of the time too...

Sincerely,
Kirby

P.S. Go to tranceaddict.com, go to the forums and don't post a thread about 'good trance songs' or they'll yell about there being too many threads on that but click the search button and search for 'favorite trance' or 'favorite house' or any of those artists' names in conjunction with 'live' and you'll find a huge sloo of every song you'd ever want to hear... :)

P.P.S. Your username doesn't actually refer to TA, right? because we call each other TAs there when you're a member...that would be a cool cooincidence...
