I know a lot about techno music itself, ask me if you would like suggestions for songs you should listen to. You can be extremely specific when you tell me what type of techno you want to hear, because I`ve heard a lot of it. For example, you can say `give me titles of some trance songs that are over 150 bpm` or `give me titles of some jungle songs that are heavy on the `bass` and not too heavy on the `drums`. If you are new to the techno genre, I can tell you about most of the different genres of electronic music. Meaning, I`ll explain what one is, and compare it to others. I don`t know much about Gabber or a ton about house, but I know the most about trance, dance (classic and new), jungle and happy hardcore. I have played classical piano and oboe since I was 5 and 11 (respectively) so if you are into classical but want to start listening to some techno, I can suggest some starter songs for you. I`m interested in helping more people learn about techno music because it is fairly unknown in some areas (like NH).

Experience
Well let's put it this way... we all know that everyone steals music so I won't claim not to fit this description. However, I am also willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money to see my favorite artists live in concert to support them, and buy their CDs when I've sampled tracks (I'm cautious like that). If I don't, then it's their fault for not playing within 200 miles of me! Believe me if I had enough time to travel to Europe I would.

Question
hello,

i am fairly new to listening to techno music...and i've found some good songs, but the vast majority that i've heard have been pretty horrible.  can you give me some recommendations?  i'm looking for stuff that's just fun to listen to...it doesn't have to be really well-done or anything.  for instance, scooter is one of my favorites, as is aquagen.  i'm just looking for something that's high-energy and fast-paced...and i don't like trance.

and i am a classical music listener, and you said that you could give some starter songs...so that would be appreciated too.

thanks,
jason.

Answer
Hello...
Here are some songs that I think you'd like judging by the style of the artists you mentioned (these are high-energy, upbeat tunes):

Warp Brothers - Blast the Speakers
Mauro Picotto - Like this like that (I especially think you'll like this one, it's an excellent song)
Mauro Picotto - Pulsar (Picotto Tea Mix)
Cygnus X - Orange Theme (Ferry Corsten remix) <-- this is trance but I think you may like it anyway because of it's creepy, dark, un-traditionally trance sound.
Brainbug - Nightmare (Sinister Strings mix)
DJ Isaac - Beat the Silence
DJ Schwede - The Party (Indurro mix)
DJ Schwede - The Ultimate
BK - Revolution
Voodoo & Serano - Slide to the vibe (club mix) <--one of my favorite songs
Any songs by The Shrink, which according to my current sources is a pseudonym of Scooter
Storm - Storm
Kai Tracid - Life is too short

Search for 'Anabolic Frolic Happy 2b Hardcore Chapter (1-7) albums if you like happy hardcore, which Scooter came out with at some points.

As for the classical music listener starter songs, I usually think that trance music featuring complex or meaty chord progressions or counterpoint usually appeal to that type of audience (for example, this is one of the only types of electronica my parents can tolerate and they're classical pianists :) )
Rank 1 - Many miles too soon
Rob D. - Clubbed to Death (not trance, awesome!)
Orion - See me here (original dub mix)
William Orbit - Barber's Adagio for strings (ferry corsten remix) <-- guess where they got this one from
there's also William Orbit - Ravel's pavane por un infante difunte (ferry corsten mix) which is Ravel of course...
and there's a track called 'Flower duet 99' which you may also recognize for its classical remix status.
Rank 1 - Cosmomatic (Ultima Radio edit)

Hope you like some of those!
Sincerely,
Kirby
