Real Estate Home Mortgages - Reporting mortgage to the big three

Expert: Jim Hoepf - 6/28/2009

Question
I purchased a home back in 2001 to a private lender in Georgia. Unfortunately, the owner has never reported this information to any of the credit companies. I recently tried to re-finance because my current interest rate is 8.5%. However, my credit score is hovering around 600 and I know that if my mortgage history is reported, my score would increase some. Especially since I have never been late on my mortgage payments. Is there an agency that can help me facilitate reporting my mortgage history to all three credit agencies?

Answer
Raymond,

There is on one agency that can help that I am aware of.  You'll probably need to contact each of the three companies and find out what they need to get it reported.

I would also talk to the lender you were working with to see if there is any way they can help with the scoring providing you can submit 12+ months of cancelled checks to verify that you have paid on time.

Hope that helps out some.
