Real Estate Home Mortgages - my house

Expert: Jim Hoepf - 6/18/2009

Question
My mother bought me this house because my credit is shot. can i have the house under my name and not hers without a mortgage. she will continue to pay. my fiance wont move in unless its under my name only.

Answer
David,

Not really.  If your mom transfers the house to you only, the lender could call the note due and payable per the terms and conditions of the note.  She could add you to the house, but that doesn't sound like your fiance is going to be ok with that.

I hate to say this, but you don't have a lot of options and your fiance should be happy that your Mom bought the house for you.
