Question I'm looking to build my own home in north east Georgia. I was just given
some land so I already have a location. My problem is that I filled chapter
7 in 2005. I raised my credit score since then but I'm sure it's going to be
difficult to get a loan. What would be best for me to get a good loan. I
currently make 55000 gross per year. I've worked for the same company
for ten years.
Answer Hi Chris,
Congratulations on your journey to purchase a new home!! The good thing is that the land value can be considered equity for down payment for your new build. It may benefit you to look at FHA if you are not able to have 20% down or collateral property. Most banks are still looking at people with re established credit after 4 years of BK discharge. I would start by talking to your current bank since you have an established relationship with them. If they do not do construction loans I would be happy to see if Wells Fargo is able to help you.
