Question I have a landlord who is extremely slow when it comes to repairs. I have had a broken lock on my backdoor since February (with numerous attempts to ask her about it). There are also several other repairs that need to be made. When is it ok to do the repair myself, and deduct it from my rent? THANKS!
Answer If it is something like the locks to your apartment and it has been 5 months, repair it. Use a locksmith in your area. Attach a copy of the bill (and the bill should indicate the location of the property and work performed) and deduct that amount from the rent payment. Include a letter explaining the situation.
