Real Estate Law (esp. Landlord-Tenant) - Eviction

Expert: Michelle Mangen - 4/27/2009

Question
Hi, I am a 21 year man currently living in Denton, Texas. I just wanted to know what would happen if you recieved a notice (from a court of law) that your apartment complex had filed for an eviction against and you don't show up for court as scheduled?

Answer
Anthony:

I am not sure how it is in Texas but I would imagine it is very similar, if not the same as WI.

In WI if a defendant (in this case, you) do not show up in court at the scheduled time the Landlord will automatically be granted judgment against you and you will be forced to remove yourself from the property.

If I were you, I would suggest you make every effort to be present at the hearing.
