I bought my timeshare at Orange Lake Resort in Orlando in 2000 for about $12000. Yes, it is true that you can exchange it for another place (I've done it a number of times in the past). But... We pay about $675 in maintenance fee + about $140 to exchange our week. A few times I could not exchange my week for Virginia through RCI. I end up buying the same week I could not get through exchange for about $500. When I bought my week I was told that the timeshare is a real estate investment that would grow in value. I called Orange Lake and asked if they could sell my week. They told me that they have too many units right now and can't sell. I asked how much I could get for it and was told that the price would be from 2 to 6 thousands. My advise is to stay away from timeshares, there is no value in them at all.
